Parking at Castleton

Parking regulations on the University help ensure the safety of all members of the community. Parking on campus is a privilege, not a right. Parking spots are not guaranteed, even if you have registered your vehicle with Public Safety. Drivers must be aware of road signs. Parking on grass, gravel, and sidewalks is prohibited. Failure to abide by traffic regulations may result in fines and/or vehicle towing. Failure to pay parking fines will result in an inability to register for classes, obtain your transcript, and/or graduate from Castleton.

Registering Your Vehicle

All students must register their vehicle with Public Safety each year and can do so online. Faculty/staff need only register their vehicle with Public Safety once. Registration is free. Go to Public Safety, located in the Hope House, to fill out a registration form. It takes only a few minutes. When you arrive on campus, make sure to stop at Public Safety to pick up your vehicle's permit. Your registration is not complete until you complete this step.

Visitors to campus need to register their vehicle with Public Safety. Visitors will be given a temporary permit to place on their dashboard and will be assigned a lot to park in while on campus.

Parking Ticket Appeals Procedure

If you feel you've received a parking ticket in error, you may fill out an appeal form available at the Public Safety Office. Once you fill out the appeal form, make an appointment with Director of Public Safety Keith Molinari to assess your appeal. Appointment times are available Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons from 1-3 pm.

Please note:

  • Appeals must be within 10 days of receipt of ticket.
  • An email address or phone number must be provided on the sign-up sheet.
  • There must be a valid reason to appeal.
  • Appeal form must be properly completed.
  • Appointment time must be kept (unless given prior notification).

*Persons not following the above appeal guidelines will have their appeal denied.

Towing

After accumulating two tickets, vehicles without current campus registration decals will be booted at the owner's expense. The owner will lose parking privileges for the remainder of the current semester and the following semester.

Vehicles with current parking decals that have accumulated 8 unpaid tickets will be towed at the owner's expense and lose parking privileges for the remainder of the current semester and the following semester.

Vehicles that have received 8 tickets in one year will be towed at the owner's expense and will lose their parking privileges for the remainder of the current semester.

Vehicles which are obstructing the roadway, fire zones, and/or other vehicles, will be towed at the owner's expense.

Vehicles not moved for snow removal will be towed at the owner's expense.
