This is a condensed, 4-week online course, geared for k-8th grade teachers. We will be exploring the best practices in distance and hybrid learning. We will explore how to create a culture for distance learning that respects group norms and is motivating for our students. Over the 4-week period we will dive into all aspects of our students’ learning from home and how to create a rich environment that holds high expectations for our students. You will build a part of your distance-learning curriculum each week as we move through our 4 weeks together. The learning for this course will be presented on a Google Site and we will also be using a Facebook Social Learning Group for our discussion board. In addition, we will meet in a Google Meet platform once a week.
Technology Requirements:
Participants must have access to the Google platform, as this course will be presented as a Google Site. We will also be using a Facebook Social Learning Group for the group posts and responses so you will need a Facebook account.
Essential Questions:
What are the best practices for a distance-learning environment?
What elements of instruction must be synchronous and what can be asynchronous?
How can I communicate best with parents to create a partnership in this new learning environment?
How can we motivate our students and help them to become the leaders of their own learning?
How can we build authentic, experiential learning into our curriculum?
What are the truly essential standards that I must focus on in order to move my students forward in their learning?
How can I assess my students’ learning from a distance?
Weekly Focus and Expectations: As this is a condensed course, there will be multiple essential questions that we will be working on during each week. There will be several opportunities to communicate and share your learning each week as well.
Books, Articles and Websites that will be used in the course (all materials will be provided, there are no materials that will need to be purchased.) This is a small sampling of what will be used.
