Castleton’s 165-acre campus is nestled in the heart of Vermont’s Green Mountains, providing panoramic views and unparalleled opportunities to get outside and explore throughout the seasons.
The village of Castleton, located in the scenic Lakes Region, is full of New England character and charm. Castleton and its surrounding towns are home to several restaurants, shops, gas stations, banks, hair salons, doctor’s offices, libraries, golf courses, and more.
Picturesque Lake Bomoseen and Bomoseen State Park are just a short car ride away and provide various recreation accommodations including public beaches, marinas, a public boat launch, and several restaurants located lakeside. In the summer, hundreds of visitors come to Castleton to watch Pond Hill Ranch’s Pro Rodeo or the University’s weekly summer concert series.
Castleton students can enjoy a day or weekend trip to surrounding cities, including Burlington, Boston, Albany, Montreal, and New York City, which are easily accessible by car or Amtrak.
The Rutland Region provides exciting opportunities for our students, whether it’s internships at local businesses and nonprofits or the chance to get outside and enjoy all that the region has to offer.
Rutland is home to Spartan Arena, the Castleton University Bank Gallery, and two apartment-style residence halls for upperclassmen and graduate students.
Students can visit Downtown Rutland for a rich mixture of entertainment, shopping, and dining, and the greater Rutland region is home to a nine-screen movie theater, bowling alley, performance venue, museums, a year-round farmers’ market, hiking and biking trails, and an array of signature events.

Killington, Vermont, is home to our Resort & Hospitality Management program and the best skiing and snowboarding on the east coast at Killington and Pico Resorts. The Killington Region provides students with an abundance of outdoor recreation opportunities throughout the year, including hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, tubing, gondola rides, golf, and more.
Castleton opened an additional campus in Bennington, Vermont, to deliver its Nursing program in fall 2019. Located roughly an hour from our main campus in Castleton, Bennington offers unique opportunities and attractions, including historical monuments and art museums, covered bridges, and more.
