Castleton University is closely monitoring the circumstances and events related to COVID-19 and will provide periodic updates. Castleton University is following guidelines from the State of Vermont and the CDC to create an environment that is as safe as possible for all of our students, faculty, and staff. Below are the expectations for arrival. Please check back, as we will provide more information on our Spring semester in the coming weeks.
All students arriving from outside of Vermont must quarantine prior to or upon arriving in Vermont.
Students must quarantine for 14 days. If they do not experience any symptoms during the quarantine period, they can have a COVID test done on or after 7 days in quarantine. They must remain in quarantine until they receive their negative test results, and must remain in quarantine until they arrive in Vermont. If a student is completing this shorter quarantine period, they must provide evidence of their negative COVID test results to the University.
Students who have tested positive for COVID-19 during break (between your departure before Thanksgiving and your return to campus for the spring semester), please contact the Wellness Center by phone (802-468-1346) or email (wellness@castleton.edu) to discuss the documentation you will need to provide to the Wellness Center before you return to campus.
For a student completing all or part of their quarantine period upon arrival in Vermont, the same time frames and expectations apply.
NOTE: Students arriving via public transportation (e.g., commercial airline, train, bus) must begin their full quarantine period in Vermont by January 17, 2021, in order to attend in-person classes beginning February 1.
All enrolled students are required to have two COVID tests within 7 days of arrival to campus. The first test needs to be completed on arrival, or within 48 hours after arrival. The second test needs to be completed 7 days after arrival. These tests will be conducted on campus free of charge during limited scheduled time periods.
Three things you need to do for Testing
1. Complete the CHCRR Pre-registration form, print it out, and bring it with you to testing (if you did not get tested on campus during the Fall 2020 semester)
2. Complete the consent to on-campus COVID testing
3. Complete the Spartan Pledge before arrival. Read and sign the Spartan Pledge here.
Who needs these two arrival tests?
The University will schedule several dates for this testing to be done on campus. The cost of testing is covered by the University if done on campus. Off-site testing is typically covered by health insurance, but will not be covered by the University.
In addition to these two arrival tests, students will be selected for additional testing throughout the semester.
Athletes will be required to complete routine testing during their competitive seasons.
