Courage to Lead: Vermont Cohort is a year-long, professional and personal leadership development initiative that includes four seasonal residential retreats beginning in November. The 48-hour retreats are held at the Bishop Booth Conference Center on the shore of Lake Champlain in Burlington, Vermont and each retreat begins at 5 p.m. on Thursday and runs through mid-afternoon on Saturday.
In whole group, small group, and solitary settings, we will “reconnect who we are with what we do” in a safe and trustworthy space, making use of stories from our own journeys, reflections on practice, and insights from poets and storytellers from various wisdom traditions. Each retreat follows a seasonal theme, using the rich metaphors and realities of the natural world as a way of exploring meaningful vocational and life questions in order to bring a deeper sense of courage and wholeness into our lives.
The Courage to Lead Vermont Cohort has strong roots in Courage to Teach and the core participants are k-12 teachers, with additional educators from a variety of settings including healthcare, human services and public service.

Course Goals:
Align soul and role to support inner transformation towards social change
Renew a sense of purpose in the teaching profession
Provide opportunities and practices for reflection, connection and action
Create a community of practice with colleagues to support professional leadership development
Course Objectives:
To cultivate active and engaged teachers who are skilled at reflective leadership, generous listening, open and honest questions, community connections and practices, personal voice and agency, and an appreciation of paradox to approach conflict and tensions in life-giving ways.
