Course Description

In the fall, during COVID-19, we were suddenly thrown into online instruction as schools closed.  There was little time to prepare or reflect. The goal of this course is to help you develop instructional materials to prepare for the many possible scenarios next year.  

This course will assist educators in the development of an online learning environment using Google Classroom, the suite of tools, and additional products to enhance student instruction.

We will:

1. Develop a plan for how the instructor wishes to use Google Classroom alongside face‐to‐face instruction or completely online to manage transitions during COVID-19
2. Rollover courses or content for next year in Classroom
3. Identify content options for online learning—and acquire or create course content
4. Look at the role of media in an online environment and produce or locate media
5. Explore the role of assessment in an online environment—pre, summative, formative
6. Discussions and student engagement
7. Grading with technology
8. Sharing resources such as forms and other take-home items

If you wish to meet during the course, we can use Google Meet or Zoom. Participants will interact with a Learning Management System for class discussions, responses to articles, and other activities. Students can work at their own pace.

Course Goals & Objectives

Participants will be able to:

1. Continue the work started during COVID-19 in their school district and improve the quality of their existing online teaching
2. Identify and build content, media, and assessment for a course or courses to create greater student engagement
