In this course, students will learn about Project Based Learning that is in alignment to the Common Core standards. Students will study the impact of using PBL in their classrooms, learn how to take formative and summative assessment data to measure student growth and learning, and make their own Project Based Learning assignment for students at the grade level they wish.
Audience: K-8 elementary and middle school teachers who are excited about mathematics education!
Course Goals: Engaging students in the impact of inquiry based learning of mathematics.
Course Objectives: In this course…
Students will be able to articulate the benefits of using Project Based Learning in their classrooms.
Students will be able to identify how to use formative and summative assessments to measure efficacy of Project Based Learning.
Students will be able to create a mini Project Based Unit based on common core standards at the appropriate grade level.
Assignments and Projects:
Projects: At the end of the course, students will have the option to work collaboratively or independently in creating their own Project Based Learning mini unit based on common core standards. In this unit, students will include objectives, standards, prior knowledge needed, formative and summative assessments, and daily activities that include direct instruction to ensure that students are provided a rigorous yet accessible unit.
