With Vermont’s adoption of Act 77 and Vermont students being required to demonstrate proficiency in a variety of areas, it is crucial that Vermont educators understand, implement, and innovate within the world of proficiency-based learning. Proficiency-based learning elicits enhanced learning, critical thinking, and lessens the achievement/opportunity gap because equity and quality education are the core goals in this system. This course is designed to help teachers understand the proficiency-based learning philosophy, apply the proficiency-based framework, and create enriching experiences for today’s learners.
Course Goals:
To build an understanding of the philosophy surrounding proficiency-based learning
To apply the proficiency-based learning framework within your own context
Use proficiency-based learning practices to create enriching experiences for today’s learners
Course Objectives:
Costs for required readings, if any, are not included in the course cost.
