Course Description

This online course helps educators create customized curriculum around the theme of  Promoting Good Citizenship. Embedded within the unit will be activities that expose students to the qualities of citizenship including honesty, compassion, respect, responsibility and courage, while giving them ample choice and flexibility in how that learning is expressed.

 Audience: Open to pre-K-12

Course Goals:

Course Goals:

1. To define the qualities of good citizenship that each teacher and/or group of teachers want to develop in their students.
2. Identification of stakeholders within the school and surrounding community who can be involved.
3. Development of lessons and activities that foster individual student growth and understanding of what it means to be a good citizen in their community.
4. Inclusion of state standards, learning targets and overarching questions.

 Course Objectives: 

1. Describe and define the components of a good citizen.
2. Understand and apply the best practices of instruction to lesson plans and activities incorporating student choice and diverse learning styles.
3. Facilitate the use of local people, resources and formats to tell the story of a good citizen.
4. Create opportunities for student success through differentiation of content, process and products in both assessments and learning activities.
5. Articulate and develop a sense of citizenship within a community.
