Course Description

The Institute offered by the Flow of History. It is a methods course designed to strengthen the history content knowledge of teachers in grades 3 through 8 and to introduce the use of cross curricular investigations. The institute will follow a C3 Inquiry Framework with workshops on developing historical questions, making thinking visible, investigating primary sources, and sharing new understandings through story. Participants reflect on classroom practice and develop an inquiry project for their students as a final assignment.

To make connections between ELA and Social Studies using local history.
To learn methods of engaging students in inquiry.
To develop methods for teaching place-based history.
