This summer graduate course provides an introduction to ArcGIS Online as a pedagogical tool in 7-12 education. Participants will learn introductory and intermediate ArcGIS skills relating to remote and on-site data collection and tools for analyzing and displaying data using ArcGIS Online. They will also utilize pedagogical tools related to ArcGIS Online, such as GeoInquiries, and learn to create and manage ArcGIS Online organizational accounts. In the end, students are expected to:
- attend two days of face-to-face instruction
- complete five mini-projects
- participate in four online discussions
- integrate ArcGIS Online into a two-week unit plan.
Requirements
Participants must bring their own laptop computer to two class meetings, and have internet access to complete mini-assignments and participate in online discussions in other weeks. A basic familiarity with Geographic Information Systems is not required.
