Course Description

This course is dedicated to the modern Spanish American short story and legend. All texts will be supplied by instructor. We will read paying special attention to the socio-historical context of the stories. Students will compare and contrast the texts to movies and or other art forms. During our class discussions students will observe on the stories and legend’s meaning, analyze their construction and explore the cultural, political and aesthetic issues that inform the stories and legends. Students will be encouraged to express their own interpretation of the texts as well as recreate it in a modern story telling manner. Think “The Moth”. https://themoth.org

Course Goals & Objectives

In this course, using flipgrid and zoom, all students will have the opportunity to polish  their ability to read, speak and write in academic contexts. They will expand their knowledge of the Latin American short story and legend.

The course will be of special interest to educators because in addition to language practice, the stories’ topics supply engaging cultural and historical content to use in their own classes. Students should keep a journal that will provide material for their own compositions and grammar review lessons.
