Dates and Times:	Face to face and online. This course will hold four in-person sessions on February 3, March 9, April 6 and May 11, 2020 from 4:15-6:15 PM. The remainder of the course will be held in an online environment. .

Course Description

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is nationally recognized as a research-based set of strategies to support ALL learners. UDL strategies and practices leverage brain-based research to offer students multiple ways to represent, engage, and express understanding. The basic precept of UDL is to first remove barriers in learning environments before resorting to curriculum modifications and accommodations. UDL is not another education initiative, but a supplemental element within the overarching framework of proficiency-based learning. Understanding the complementary role that UDL plays in a system of proficiency is key. This course will provide teachers with a foundational understanding of UDL and actionable strategies for making their classrooms more inclusive. Course participants will deepen their understanding of UDL through course readings, professional dialogue, and classroom practice.

Be able to apply UDL strategies in the classroom
Understand how UDL can support proficiency-based learning and other initiatives
