Castleton hosted a Veteran’s Day Ceremony on Monday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at the Memorial Flagpole in front of Woodruff Hall.
President Dave Wolk opened the ceremony, introducing speaker Margaret Young, USAR and Assistant Professor of Nursing. Young's address moved the dozens in attendance, and featured a stirring rendition of the Warrior's Ethos, orated by a veteran in attendance. Young spoke of the men and women who make the ultimate sacrifice to their country, and the countless others who return from combat and continue to lead a life of sacrifice and honor. That topic was illustrated beautifully when Young mentioned her work in a VA hospital in which she was treating a Vietnam Veteran who was fighting complications from "Agent Orange," and he extended his hand to thank her for her service.
After Young's address, she and President Wolk placed a wreath at the base of the flagpole, which pays tributes to all veterans of U.S. wars. Wolk then invited all who had served, and those who continue to serve who were in attendance to come forward to be recognized before the ceremony concluded with the playing of "Taps."
