Recently retired Cosmetic, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery Specialist Dr. John Wheeler, MD, DMD, generously donated a portion of his medical library, along with a human-labeled teaching skeleton and an articulated skeleton of the hand, to Castleton University.
"I am happy to see the books I've collected in my 51 years in the medical field be made available to the students at Castleton," explained Dr. Wheeler, who was the first plastic surgeon in southern Vermont, following in the footsteps of his father, who was the first trained general surgeon in the area.
The book donation includes eight volumes of the CIBA Collection of Medical Illustrations, by Frank Henry Netter, an American surgeon, and medical illustrator. Dr. Netter is said to have advanced the understanding of anatomy more than any other medical illustrator since the 16th century.
