Castleton University, in partnership with the Community College of Vermont, will be offering CCV graduates and transfer students the opportunity to pursue their Bachelor of Science in Business Administration at CCV’s Rutland and Winooski campuses starting in the fall.
In addition, students interested in pursuing a Master of Arts degree in Educational Leadership will be able to take Saturday courses in Rutland as part of an innovative hybrid delivery model that allows students to complete a portion of the courses online.
The partnership is designed to meet the needs of non-traditional and transfer students through a course delivery model that offers convenience and accessibility. Since the 2016-2017 academic year, Castleton has matched the CCV tuition rate for all CCV graduates who pursue a bachelor’s degree at Castleton. Now, the University will bring the programs directly to the Winooski and Rutland campuses.
“This delivery model will make a bachelor’s degree more accessible to students who thrive in an on-campus environment, but whose lifestyles do not easily assimilate to our traditional offerings in Castleton,” said Castleton University President Dr. Karen M. Scolforo. “CCV President Joyce Judy and the entire CCV team have been amazing partners. Together we are eliminating barriers. CCV graduates will be able to seamlessly matriculate into a bachelor’s degree program, delivered by Castleton University, at the same location where they completed their associate’s degree.”
This fall, students will have the opportunity to take Financial Management on Monday evenings and Organizational Development and Behavior on Tuesday evenings in Rutland. Winooski offerings include Organizational Development and Behavior on Saturday mornings, while Supply Chain Management will be offered Tuesday evenings.
“We are committed to making higher education in Vermont as accessible and affordable as possible,” Dr. Scolforo said. “This opportunity will allow students to work full time, raise families, and continue to live their lives while attending classes in the evening or on the weekend in a familiar location.”
In addition to deepening its connection with CCV graduates, there is also an opportunity for students with work or training experience to demonstrate that learning for college-level credit through the VSCS Prior Learning Assessment program. This program is available to students with some or no-college credits and those with an associate’s degree looking to move on to a bachelor’s degree.
According to Scolforo, PLA is an opportunity for students to gain credit through exam, course challenge, focused portfolio development, or assessment of prior learning. “With four different options to earn credit for prior learning, there is a lot of value for students to explore PLA as a way to save time and money and, more importantly, receive academic recognition for workplace knowledge.” Students can enroll in Assessment of Prior Learning at CCV Rutland on Saturdays, 9am-1pm, for the Fall 2018 semester.
