Students from the Castleton Upward Bound program recently took home a second place win for their research on a local community green-up project at the Sixth Annual High School Leadership Greening Summit at Johnson State College.
The team competed against eight other high school teams from around Vermont with a written proposal, formal presentation, and creative demonstration.
Professor Ann Honan served as the team’s primary mentor, meeting with students monthly since January to guide their research. The team consisted of Brett Cross, Brianna Barker and Emily Ray of Mill River Union High School, Tommy Bacher and Brockton Corbett of Poultney High School, and Alex Caraballo of Fair Haven Union High School.
The summit win brings over $1,000 to the university for a greening project based on the team’s research.
The Castleton Upward Bound program provides opportunities for Rutland County students from low-income families or first-in-family college attendees to succeed in their pre-college performance and assist in their higher education pursuits.
