Men's Hockey seniors Dan Bell and Brett Zeggil were recently selected to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Capital One Academic All-America Division III At-Large Third Team for their performance on the ice and in the classroom.
Bell and Zeggil are just the second and third CoSIDA Academic All-America selections in Castleton history, joining former women's soccer standout Courtney Chadburn, who was named to the All-America First Team in the fall of 2011. Castleton was one of five schools nationally to have two student-athletes named to the All-America First, Second or Third Team, along with Kenyon, MIT, Washington (Mo.), Wisconsin-La Crosse. They were also just two of six hockey players to be named to any of the three teams.
The CoSIDA Academic All-America At-Large Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their excellence on the field and in the classroom. The At-Large ballot is made up of student-athletes who participate in the following sports: Golf, Gymnastics, Ice Hockey, Lacrosse, Tennis, Volleyball, Water Polo and Wrestling.
Bell was a co-captain for the Spartans, leading them to a 15-10-2 record and an appearance in the ECAC East Semifinals. He finished second on the team in scoring (27), assists (17) and goals (10). Bell finished his career as the fifth member of the 100-point club as well. Off the ice he has been named to both the Dean's List and the President's list along with being vice president of the Right to Play Club. Bell has a 3.85 GPA and graduated with a degree in Business Administration.
Zeggil served as a co-captain with Bell this year. He appeared in 24 games this season, scoring five times and dishing off six assists. He has been named to the ECAC East All-Academic Team three times as well as the President's List every year. Zeggil is the president of the Right to Play Club and won Asian History Scholar of the Year award. Zeggil owns a 3.99 GPA and graduated with degrees in History and Political Science.
The Capital One Division II and III Academic All-America program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2012-13 DII and DIII Academic All-America teams program.
