The Department of Business Administration at Castleton is pleased to announce the selection of local businessperson John Casella and Castleton President Dave Wolk to join eleven outstanding students for induction into its local chapter of the Sigma Beta Delta International Business Honor Society. The induction took place on Nov. 13 in front of family and friends at President Wolk's home.
Created nearly 20 years ago, the honor society’s purpose is to encourage and recognize scholarship and accomplishments among students and to promote personal and professional growth. The Society also recognizes those in the university and surrounding community who have demonstrated business excellence, achievement, and service.
John Casella is Chairman and CEO of Casella Waste Systems, a company whose mission, vision, and values mirror those that Sigma Beta Delta professes. Throughout its thirty-year history, Casella Waste Systems has remained committed to protecting environmental resources, supporting its employees, and working to improve the community. Mr. Casella holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Education from Castleton University and is the local chapter’s first honorary inductee from the local community.
Since his inauguration in 2001, Dave Wolk has overseen an increased involvement by Castleton in the local community and an expanded commitment to civic engagement and service learning. New construction has included residence halls, fitness centers, athletic facilities and the purchase and renovation of the Spartan Arena in Rutland Town, offering recreational and cultural opportunities to the broader region. In a ceremony on September 21, 2012 Castleton celebrated the completion of Project 2012 which included the 162-bed Hoff Hall, a new facilities barn, and the impressive Castleton Pavilion, the largest venue of its kind in the state. The start of this school year saw the completion of the Master Plan inaugurated in 2012, in which nearly $75 million was invested in college infrastructure improvements.
