Mixed media artist Stephen Schaub will feature his exhibit Close Up in the Christine Price Gallery at Castleton running from Jan. 21 through Feb. 21 with an artist talk on January 28 in Herrick Auditorium at 12:30 p.m. and reception scheduled for January 30 at 5 p.m. in the gallery.
In Close Up, a series of photographic works on paper, artist Stephen Schaub explores the topography of the human face through images of friends, acquaintances and family. In each work of art the face is singled out, closely framed and enlarged to the point of abstraction. The subject’s eyes are often the only feature in sharp focus, heightening the sense of drama and the illusion of perspective.
“I was interested in the face as a window to the person,” describes Schaub. “How the outward expression - and the eyes in particular - tells us a story about our subject.”
The Christine Price Gallery is located on the Castleton College campus and is open Monday through Friday with hours of operation from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
