Castleton is pleased to announce four Upward Bound Alumni students have been awarded the Stephen Phillips Scholarship for the 2013-2014 academic year.
The New England based scholarship recognizes those with a high level of commitment to academics and community service, as well as a strong potential to be successful in college. Out of the 1,064 applicants approximately 500 students were awarded scholarships, totaling over $3,000,000.
This year’s Castleton scholarship recipients include Shania Brown (pictured), Amanda Hill and Alyssa Hartwell who will be attending Castleton in the fall and Jesse Sumner who is attending Wells College.
“We have had a winner every single year since it started,” said Castleton Upward Bound Director Jen Jones. “They are the best of our best.”
The Castleton Upward Bound program provides opportunities for Rutland County students from low-income families or first in family college attendees to succeed in their precollege performance and assist in their higher education pursuits.
