Castleton is pleased to welcome entrepreneur Molly Barker as she addresses the effects of stereotyping and the challenge of stepping outside of your comfort zone and embracing a healthy lifestyle on Tuesday, March 26, at 7 p.m. in the Casella Theater.
As the founder of Girls on the Run, a program for pre-teen girls that encourages self-respect and healthy living, Barker has motivated audiences all over to examine their style of living and take charge by seeking a new, innovative and more enjoyable context through which to view the world.
Girls on the Run is a non-profit organization that touches over 150 cities in 43 states across the United States and has helped thousands of girls gain the confidence needed to succeed.
Barker’s inspiration comes from her personal experience of a time when she found herself stuck in what she calls the “girl box,” where girls were liked only when they limited themselves to a required persona and beauty.
She was able to break out of the stereotype after finding a strong passion and outlet in running and has since inspired others to embrace their passions.
Now a four-time Hawaii Ironman triathlete, she has used her knowledge and strength to grow Girls on the Run and prevent youth girls everywhere from filling into a similar situation.
