Throughout the Communication Department this semester Castleton students are gaining valuable experiences with internships in their chosen fields. These students are applying content from their classroom coursework to professional settings both on and off campus.
With the help of Assistant Professor of Journalism Dave Blow, three seniors are working at local newspapers. Josh Bassett is an intern with the Rutland Herald, serving as both a writer and a photographer. Also writing is Emma Rudnick, who marks the first Castleton intern in many years to work with The Mountain Times. As an intern with the Lakes Region Free Press, Andrew Muse recently had his work published as the lead story.
Senior Nick Lingardo is applying his Digital Media skills while interning with Laurie Musick Wright at LMW Design in Rutland, while Ben Cram, Jeremy Odena, and Alexis Esposito can be seen and heard working in various capacities with Catamount Radio.
Several students are taking advantage of the variety of opportunities available in the field of public relations. Stacy Sullivan (pictured above) is the first Castleton intern with Green Mountain Power’s new Energy Innovation Center. Also in Rutland is Elishia Fletcher working in the PR department of Rutland Regional Medical Center. John Kendall is in Ludlow, Vt. completing his second internship in the wine and cheese sector.
Other students are gaining relevant experience right on campus. Brandon Kennedy is interning in the Admissions Office, gaining credit for his communication related work. In the College Advancement Office, junior intern Molly DeMellier covers campus events in press releases and stories for the college’s news and events webpage. Ben Stockwell in the Athletic Communications Department is supervising two senior interns for the semester. Eric Dowd is working to assist with press releases and gathering statistics and Will Stuhler is also in the department producing video bits. Senior Brandon Boyle is working with Professor Andy Weinberg doing promotional photography and video for the Spartan Race.
Through her internship with PEG access, Hannah Josselyn produces videos of campus events for Channel 15 and Channel 20.
This semesters communication internship opportunities go far beyond Vermont borders. Trey Kiendl is in Park City, Utah working with Castleton alum Kevin Rapf at Park City TV. Recently, Kiendl ran camera during events at the Sundance Film Festival.
