Castleton community members are gearing up for a day of sports, fundraising and friendly competition as they prepare for the 2014 Kickball Classic in support of the Right to Play foundation on Saturday, May 3.
The Right to Play foundation is a global organization that uses the transformative power of play to educate and empower children facing adversity. Through sports and games, Right To Play helps children build essential life skills and better futures, while driving social change in their communities with lasting impact.
Each year, Right To Play reaches one million children in regular weekly activities in more than 20 countries around the world.
The Right to Play at Castleton group is made up of student-athletes, eager to give back to sports. Realizing that their place in this world has been greatly influenced by sports, many see the event as a chance to provide an opportunity for children in less privileged countries with their own “Right to Play.”
Now in their third year of participation, the team has raised over $10,000 to-date for the cause. Past years events including a World Record dodgeball tournament and barefoot soccer game.
Kick-off will begin a 9 a.m. on the Castleton Alumni Field (South of Spartan Stadium). A barbecue and silent auction will run in conjunction with the tournament, featuring a variety of Spartan team gear, as well as items from several local businesses.
This year’s tournament teams are made up of a combination of students, faculty, staff and alumni, each prepared to kick for the cause.
