Castleton is pleased to present the Castleton Jazz Combos, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, and Collegiate Chorale in three evenings of music on December 9, 10, and 12 at the Casella Theater in the Fine Arts Center.
On Monday, December 9, the Castleton Jazz Combos present an eclectic evening of tunes both time-tested and contemporary. Jazz fans can be sure to recognize some standards, as well as discover some new favorites as the University's most diverse ensemble brings the house down.
Tuesday, December 10 features the Wind Ensemble, under the direction of new Associate Director of Bands Dr. Paul Kafer. The concert features works by premier composers Mark Camphouse, Frank Ticheli, Richard Saucedo, Johnnie Vinson, and New York Pops conductor Steven Reinecke. The Ensemble concert will also be the debut of the talents of arranging student Christina Papandrea, student conductor Matthew Haley, and the newly formed Woodwind Quintet.
Ensemble Week concludes Thursday, December 12 as the Castleton Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Glenn Giles, and Collegiate Chorale under the direction of Sherrill Blodget, are excited to team up with a program ranging from Olatunji to Mingus. Choral selections include "Wolcom Yole" from Britten's Ceremony of Carols, Jerome Kern's "All the Things You Are," "Betelehemu," spirituals, and holiday favorites. The ensembles will combine to present "Sing, Sing, Sing" by Louis Prima; and others. The Jazz Ensemble will end the program with Mingus' "Haitian Fight Song", Radiohead's "Bodysnatchers", Gordon Goodwin's "Crunchy Frog" based on the Monty Python skit, and more.
All concerts start promptly at 7 p.m. Tickets cost just $5 for adults, $3 for children, and all Castleton students will be admitted free with valid ID. To purchase tickets in advance, go online. For more information, contact the Castleton Fine Arts Center Box Office at (802) 468-1119.
