Castleton Associate Professor of Geography Scott Roper has recently been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Vermont Center for Geographic Information by Governor Peter Shumlin.
His appointment is the first ever from Castleton and Roper is one of just three higher education representatives on the 12-person Board who represent the municipal, state, legislature, academic, and private/ business sectors, as well as the regional planning commissions.
As a public non-profit organization, the Vermont Center for Geographic Information works to develop and implement comprehensive strategies for the collection, storage, and dissemination of data for use in geographic information systems. Their work with this data intends to reveal relationships, patterns, and trends in the form of maps, globes, reports, and charts.
“They're a dedicated group of professionals doing very important work for businesses, educators, and all levels of government in the state, and I'm looking forward to working with them as a member of the board,” Roper said.
