Students, faculty, and staff gathered in the Alumni Room of Huden Dining Hall on Wednesday to honor Sodexo employee, Nancy Johnson, as she was recognized for her exceptional service.
Huden's cashier with a permanent smile and a sincere compliment in tow, Johnson, was named the March National Sodexo Experience Award recipient.
The Sodexo Experience Award is given to a member of each of the company’s districts, who exemplifies great customer service and attitude. Johnson went on to win the national award after being selected as both the district and regional employee winner.
To receive the national award, Johnson was selected among all Sodexo campus accounts in the United States, totaling over 600 colleges and universities.
“Nancy is very humble, and works hard at this for only one reason,” said Sodexo General Manager Jeff Kurto, “the students at Castleton.”
During the ceremony Kurto commented on Johnson’s ability to go above and beyond all expectations to provide outstanding customer service day in and day out. He explained how she takes a personal interest in students’ lives by keeping track of their birthdays on a calendar, noting athletic achievements, and commenting on their work published in the student newspaper.
“Students often stop and talk with Nancy on their way out, some spend hours with her,” Kurto said
In a recent article featured in The Spartan, customers and co-workers alike raved over their interactions with Johnson and the positive role she plays in the Castleton community.
“She represents not only Sodexo, but Castleton College,” Kurto said.
True to her nature, Johnson accepted her awards with little more than her gracious grin.
“Mostly, I want to thank the students for making my day better,” she said.
