The Castleton Theater Arts department continues its spring musical tradition with Urinetown: The Musical, by Mark Hollmann and Greg Kotis.
Urinetown is a contemporary satire, based on the works of Bertolt Brecht, and set in a fictional city that has endured a twenty year drought. As a result, the citizens must pay a profit hungry company for the “privilege to pee.” When the company threatens to raise the urinal fee once again, Bobby Strong ignites a revolution in an effort to restore freedom to all citizens. This outrageous and truly original musical debuted on Broadway in 2001 and won Tony awards for Best Book, Best Direction, and Best Original Musical Score.
The production is directed by Castleton Theater Arts department chair, Harry McEnerny, and choreographed by Castleton Theater Arts faculty, Maya Kraus. Maya has previously choreographed a number of productions, including The Sound of Music and The Lion King, although this is her first opportunity to collaborate on a show at Castleton.
Performances for Urinetown: The Musical will take place Mar. 21-22 and Mar. 27-29 at 7 p.m., with a matinee showing on Mar. 23 at 2 p.m.
