Want a little help with math, writing, or a particular class? Sometimes, all it takes is a chat and another approach to the material.
Our friendly, flexible tutors meet you where you are and give you the tools you need to succeed. For help with math and writing, stop by our clinics. For help with a specific course, complete our tutor request form.
But before you request a tutor, especially during the first week of classes, we ask you to try two things:
If you’ve taken these steps and still believe you need help, then you should complete our tutor request form.
Once we’ve found a tutor for you, we’ll contact you via campus email. Then you and your tutor can determine when, where, and how often you’d like to meet: it’s up to you! Note: at present, tutors will be providing online support to students.
Castleton also has a new partnership with Tutor.com. Students can sign up for 30 or 60-minute sessions, and they can use this service up to twice a week. Like all ASC services, it is free. You can access this free service through the link on Canvas.
After we’ve matched you with a tutor, you’ll be responsible for scheduling meetings with him or her. Our tutors use a coaching model. They will help you understand the course material, but they will not do assignments for you. In fact, most students spend more time on coursework after they start working with a tutor. As a result, their grades usually improve.
If you have trouble contacting your tutor or if the match does not work for you, please let us know as soon as possible. We will be happy to help you find another tutor.
We’re always recruiting qualified tutors. If you’ve earned an A or B in a course and believe you could help others master the material, we want to hear from you! If you’d like to tutor a nursing, science, or athletic training course, please contact Deborah Jackson. Get in touch with Doe Dahm if your expertise lies in the humanities, social sciences, business, criminal justice, or accounting. We pay our tutors for their time, but you need not be eligible for work study to join our team.
