Students are encouraged to audition at any time, preferably after submitting their admissions application form. Auditions will be considered beginning in November.
There are three steps to audition:
Step 1: Request a Meeting Time
This is to meet music faculty and is a follow up to your submitted audition view.
Students are asked to set up a zoom conversation with music faculty to discuss their accomplishments, goals, and interests. If students are from a non-quarantine county, it may be possible to do this interview portion of the audition in-person in conjunction with a campus tour if desired.

Step 2: Record an Audition Video
Until COVID restrictions ease, auditions will be submitted digitally. Students should prepare a high-quality audio/video recording with a repertoire as described below. Completed recordings should be sent to music@castleton.edu for review.
Your recording can be made on an iPhone, iPad, computer, or through separate recording equipment. Be sure to check the sound and video quality before submitting it.
Your audition repertoire must include the following:
Instrumental – Three major scales in 2 octaves. Two contrasting pieces that display your technical ability and artistic merit. A sonata movement, etude, etc. along with a contrasting piece that displays technical and artistic skills are acceptable options.
Vocal - Two contrasting pieces from the following genres: 1) art song or aria, 2) adaptation of a folk song, or spiritual or 3) song from musical theater (maximum of one). The selections must be memorized and if possible should demonstrate two languages (including English). All vocal auditions should be accompanied. Recorded accompaniment is fine, as well as recording with a live accompanist.
If you have any questions or concerns about recording an audition, please contact us at music@castleton.edu for any assistance.
Step 3: Submitting Audition Video
Submit your audition video no later than the Monday before your scheduled interview date and time.
Recordings may be uploaded to Youtube, Google Drive, or Dropbox, and the link should be sent to music@castleton.edu
