TOEFL Exemption
Undergraduate International Applicants
International students must demonstrate proficiency in English as one of the admissions requirements for undergraduate admission. Submission of a minimum score of 65 iBT on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required for all applicants whose native language is not English.
Exempt from submitting TOEFL scores are applicants:
- who have earned a high school diploma from a high school in the English educational system in any English speaking countries/regions,
- who have successfully completed a minimum of two terms of full time post-secondary academic studies in the United States, Canada, UK, Australia, or New Zealand at an institution where English proficiency is required for admission,
- who have acceptable GCE Ordinary Level or Advanced Level results, GCSE results or acceptable test results of Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations (SSCE) by the West African Examinations Council,
- who are recommended by the Castleton University approved ESL schools in the U.S. or by other institutions of higher learning with which Castleton University has a signed agreement regarding this requirement, or
- who have a minimum 6 on the IELTS.
Graduate International Applicants
Exempt from submitting TOEFL scores are applicants:
- who have earned a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher learning in the English educational system in any English speaking countries/regions,
- who have a minimum 6.5 on the IELTS, or
- who are recommended by the Castleton approved ESL schools in the U.S. or by other institutions of higher learning with which Castleton has a signed agreement regarding this requirement.
Castleton reserves the right to determine whether or not an admission test is required of an international applicant.
