As a reminder to all students: All full-time students are required to live in a University residence hall for the first two years of enrollment. Once housing contracts are complete students will be assigned a room.
If students want to keep their roommate and do not have any preference of room, they will just need to fill out a contract and wait for their rooming assignment. This is typically sent out the end of July.
If a student would like to change their roommate or have a particular room preference, they can send their request to the General Manager.
No request is guaranteed but is up for consideration during the room assignment process.
Please contact the Residence Life Office: residencelife@castleton.edu or 802-468-1259 or stop by the Campus Center – Student Life Office #152.
When you fill out your Housing Contract, make sure you request that new student on your contract within the roommate request section. You must have the student’s full name listed and cannot write something vague; for example, a “new hockey player” or “an international student." The new student MUST list you as their requested roommate and create a roommate group which you must approve by July 1, 2021.
If you have or need a medical housing accommodation, please contact the Coordinator of Disability Services Gerry Volpe, Academic Support Center in Babcock Hall at (802) 468-1428 or Gerard.Volpe@castleton.edu.
(This policy is based on the current COVID regulation change for Fall of 2021) Yes, triple rooms are available in Babcock and Hoff Hall, but there are very few. You must have two other people who want to live in the triple room with you at room selection to be able to choose that room. If you are interested in a triple room please contact Residence Life prior to room selection.
Contact residencelife@castleton.edu or 802-468-1259 or stop by the Campus Center – Student Life Office #152.
Single rooms on campus are limited and will only be available in Ellis Hall for Fall 2021. Priority rooming group numbers will be used for all single rooms in Ellis. A waiting list for single rooms will be generated if needed. Single rooms are also available in our Foley Hall in Rutland.
If the demand for rooms exceeds 60% occupancy of returning students on campus, a waitlist will be started. Someone from the Residence Life Office will contact you if and when your name is considered. You will be contacted by the phone number or email address listed on your housing contract.
Attend an Informational Zoom Session – Links will be sent out to all students
Ask any Community Advisor: They can answer your questions and point you in the right direction. They have an office on the first floor of every residence hall on campus, except in the Houses.

We recognize that same-sex room assignments are not ideal for all students. At Castleton University, we offer gender-inclusive double rooms in corridor-style housing where students have the option to live with a roommate of their choice, regardless of their gender identity or their roommate’s. Gender Inclusive Rooms are available to any student who is eligible to live on campus. This type of housing is included in the following buildings: Babcock Hall, Ellis Hall, and Hoff Hall.
Residence Life will offer gender-inclusive suites on a limited basis. This concept has been worked on by students, Residence Life staff, and through a survey that took place in the fall of 2019. This will create a welcoming space on campus for all students. This will allow students to live together in suites regardless of gender identity. Students must have prior approval before room selection to live in a suite. Once approved students can select a gender-inclusive room in a suite during room selection night based on priority rooming group number.
Ellis Hall will offer all single rooms within the building. Single rooms will be offered to all students eligible for room selection. There is an additional cost per semester for the single room. The total cost for a single room is $4,610 per semester. That is $954 extra for a single room. Students that have a single room in Ellis Hall must keep all of the furniture in their room.
