Castleton University is a residential campus, which means you will have the opportunity to live, learn, work, and play alongside students from all walks of life and all corners of the world. On-campus living allows you to develop closer connections with other students, become an active participant in the more than 50 clubs and activities we offer, and have easy access to all of the support systems available to you.
Full-time, matriculated students are eligible to live on our 165-acre campus, located in the heart of Vermont’s Green Mountains. We require all traditional-age students to live on campus during their freshman and sophomore years (unless you commute from your parent or guardian’s home). All students who live on campus must sign a Housing Contract for the academic year and choose a meal plan.
When you live on campus, you have a built-in social network of more than 1,000 other Castleton University students. We know that choosing a university is one of the biggest decisions you’ll make, and it’s important that the place you’ll spend the next four years has all the comforts of home: good food, friends, and fun.
Residential students are supported by professional residence life staff who are trained to support students on an individual basis as well as to develop a community within each residence hall. Residence Life staff value safety, respect, student growth, and group interaction. Each residence hall floor has at least one Community Advisor (CA) and each residence hall has a designated Area Coordinator (AC), who is a full-time live-in professional administrator.
Incoming first-year students are assigned to a room prior to the start of the semester. You may request a roommate if you know someone who is also attending Castleton. If you do not request a roommate, one will be assigned to you. You will receive your room assignment and roommate contact information prior to move-in. This allows you to get to know the person you’ll be living with before you move in.
Returning students residing on campus, who paid the housing deposit on time, are eligible to choose a room during the room selection process.
Students are allowed to have cars on campus but must register them with the Public Safety Department each year.
Each residence hall has at least one television in a public area. Castleton students can stream internet-based television services such as Hulu. If you do bring a TV to campus, you may be able to connect to your computer to create a larger display for viewing online TV and video content.
Every residence hall is equipped with a data port for each resident, which provides high-speed Internet access. All residence halls also have wireless internet.
Washers and dryers are available in each residence hall. Laundry can be paid for using quarters or through the app “Micropayments GS.”* To use the app, you must set up an account, load your account with a debit or credit card, and access the washers or dryers from the app on your phone.
